The Artist

Anne Noble, born in 1954 in Wanganui, received an MFA (Honours - 1st class) from the Elam School of Fine Arts in 1983. Noble is one of New Zealand’s most respected and recognised contemporary photographers. Noble’s photographs are renowned for their complex beauty and conceptual richness. Her substantial body of work includes documentary images which record aspects of domesticity and sensory experience, landscape photography which challenges understandings of our construction of and relationship to place, and installation which incorporates still and moving imagery. In 2003, Noble was conferred with a New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to photography. Noble teaches Fine Arts (Photography) at Massey University Wellington, and in 2013, she was awarded the title of Massey University Distinguished Professor.
