Leenards (b.1946 Nijmegen, Holland) emigrated to New Zealand in 1956. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury and received a graduate diploma in 1970. Her first exhibition took place in 1981 in Wellington, and then shortly after she exhibited for the first time in Auckland. Later on in her life she returned to her home town in Holland on a residency for 6 months.
