Born in 1947 in Fiji, Rodney Fumpston studied at the Elam School of Fine Arts from 1966-72, graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts (1970) and Master of Fine Arts (First Class Honours) in 1972. He then graduated in Advanced Studies in Printmaking in London. He is currently the Head of Printing Making at Elam (Auckland). Fumpston has been making prints for over thirty years, and is seen as one of the few NZ artists to focus on this medium. He has achieved astonishing results using the painstaking method to portray his ideas usually with reference to the New Zealand landscape and greenery, focussing on the textures and colours of New Zealand.
