Harrison (b.1961, Christchurch) works with fabrics, stitched and constructed pieces. He learnt to have a respect for handwork due to his background in coalmining in Australia and the West Coast of the South Island, as well as his grandmother who worked as a child in the Lancashire Cotton Mills. In the 1970s, he shifted his practice from clothing production to quiltmaking, beginning a successful career as a textile artist. The Family is a highly popular and well known collection of 35 dolls crafted by Harrison over 30 years and exhibited widely throughout New Zealand.
