Grosse (b.1961) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Grosse fuses painting with architecture and sculpture to produce works which immerse the viewer. She works directly onto walls and objects using an industrial spray gun which brings to life the unconventional building exteriors, disused bunkers and massive dirt piles to which she transforms into a work of art. Her method draws from a combination of art traditions - including fresco, plein-air painting, Abstract expressionism and street graffiti. Colour is essential to her works in order to achieve intense and visceral combinations with a careful blend and application of primary and secondary colours. Each hue acts as a separate movement and the physical process to which she applies her medium is reflected within the pictorial space. Gow Langsford Gallery has represented Grosse since 2004.
